Atsumi hot springs along the Atsumi River have been attracting visitors for some 1,000 years. Around 130 somei yoshino were planted along the riverside in 1951 as part of reconstruction efforts after the hot spring town suffered a large fire. Today visitors can stroll along the river, which features a wooden deck and foot baths, while gazing at the sakura in bloom. The Atsumi Sakura Marathon is held around April 20.
