No.47 Shimekake Cherry Tree at Churen-ji Temple
On the grounds of Churen-ji Temple stands a kasumizakura, a wild variety of sakura said to be 200 years old. The majestic tree stands 15 meters tall with branches spreading out from 16.4 to 17.4 meters. Kasumizakura are notable for their blossoms, which change from white at first bloom to pale pink. The ancient Churen-ji Temple was said to be founded in 833 by the monk Kukai, also known as Kobo Daishi.
