No.45 Mogami Park
Mogami Park in Shinjo City is home to around 350 somei yoshino and shidarezakura, many of which line the moat of the castle remains. The Shinjo Spring Festival and Kadoyaki Festival are held here during sakura season. Kado is the Ainu word for herring, who return to lay their eggs in spring. A local tradition is to eat grilled herring laden with eggs while celebrating the blooming sakura and the arrival of spring.
