No.62 Kobo Cherry Tree
This magnificent edohigan sakura is named Kobozakura after the monk Kobo Daishi, who is said to have passed by and stuck a cherry cane in this spot. This tree subsequently grew and is estimated to be 800 years old, the oldest sakura in Iwate. The sakura’s branches seem to wrap around and protect the small Buddhist shrine by its trunk. Snow-covered Mt. Iwate in the distance completes the postcard-perfect scene.
