No.106 Cherry Trees at Toni-cho
Some 2,800 somei yoshino were planted around the area of Toni-cho to express wishes for Toni-cho’s recovery after an earthquake and tsunami caused severe damage in the area in 1933. Today around 150 of these sakura form a tunnel of pink blossoms along a historic highway in Toni-cho. Once every three years, Amaterasu-Mioya-jinja Shrine holds a grand procession under the blooming sakura in late April. The next procession is scheduled in 2021.
