While only the inner moat and imposing stone walls of the castle remain, they have romantic charm to spare. Against this enchanting backdrop, around 200 oyamazakura, edohigan, somei yoshino, and other sakura delight visitors in spring. Many come for the Morioka Sakura Festival held from late April to early May. The castle has been named one of Japan’s 100 Great Castles and the park one of Japan’s Top 100 City Parks and Historic Parks.
