No.24 Hitome Senbonzakura
The name of this iconic sakura viewing spot describes how you can see 1,000 blooming cherry trees (senbonzakura) at a glance (hitome) along the bank of the Shiroishi River. Stretching for some eight kilometers and actually 1,200 trees today, Hitome Senbonzakura began from saplings of somei yoshino donated by a local entrepreneur in 1923, of which an estimated 300 still survive. The waves of pink blossoms along the river framed by snow-capped mountains in the distance is simply breathtaking.
