No.22 Ubahigan Cherry Tree in Hippo District

This massive single sakura is a variety of edohigan called ubahiganzakura. Standing an impressive 18 meters tall with a trunk 10 meters around, this sakura is said to be more than 300 years old. A small shrine sits under the tree, and seems to be enveloped by the pink blossoms. Legend has it that the tree was planted when an Imperial Prince came to the area to visit an ancient temple.
