Matsugasaki Park is located on the former grounds of the Yonezawa Castle, said to have been first built in 1238. The park still has many traces of its former castle days, including a lovely moat where approximately 200 somei yoshino are planted. The sakura stretch elegantly over the moat, which reflects their blossoms and a vermillion bridge. The Yonezawa Uesugi Festival is held from April 29 to May 3.
